I never knew that having a SMART Board could create so much excitement in a classroom! I just received a SMART Board this week for the first time in my classroom, and Friday was the first time that I implemented its use in their learning. In teaching middle school students, I have to keep in mind the topics that interest these students, and then I can apply them to math. On Friday, I showed my students a video on the mathematics involved in creating roller-coasters. My students were so thrilled to be watching something that they could relate to. With the SMART Board screen in front of my classroom, I can now show them all sorts of videos and play with many interactive math programs. I think that this is going to enhance the learning of my students and hopefully it will assist in developing an upward trend in their test scores.

That is great news about your SMARTboard. I have had one for a little over a year now and I use it every day. At first I used it primarily as a screen and projector, then I began to create more interactive content. It just takes a lot of time. (I spent 2 hours this morning creating an activity that will take 20 minutes of class time to do. Fortunately for me, I have seven classes that will use the same activity.)
I have a few pieces of advice. See if you can join some kind of user group so that you can learn from, and help out, others with SMARTboards. Secondly, make sure you search for updates for your gallery from SMARTTECH on a regular basis. Third … use it all you can and you’ll keep finding more ways to use it.
Good luck!
Sari,
A good place to explore is to find what the kids can do with the board. How can they be active in their learning?

Congratulations Sari! I have a Smart Board and love using it with my math class. If you want, I would be happy to show you some things you can do. Remind me next class!
